Development of a Selective Collection of Literature

The acquisitions include both conventional (e.g. monographs, conference proceedings, theses, journals, newsletters, magazines etc., in hard copy form) and non-conventional types (CDs, videos and other multimedia products). The electronic media includes abstracting and indexing periodicals, reference sources like encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, monographs in electronic form, CBT (Computer-Based Training) materials on different software, and electronic or online only journals.

An additional 300+ journals/magazines that are available free on the net and reflect the mandate of IDRBT have been identified and their URLs integrated with the library catalogue.

Development of a Virtual/ Digital Library

The virtual library includes directories of websites, indexes to HTML pages and actual contents of specific HTML pages (e.g. news flashes from different sites, announcements of conferences and training programs, articles by academicians in the field of information technology, banking and management, reports from relevant sites like RBI, BIS, etc.). Research reports and papers of relevance to the Institute too are being identified and downloaded to the library server. These resources are made available on the Institute’s Intranet through proper indexing and a search facility through WebOPAC. Over 3000 research papers, theses and reports are currently available to the user community.

A query on the WebOPAC retrieves a list of books and other materials available in the Library in print or electronic form along with a list of resources on the Internet. Making this valuable collection of resources open to the user community of INFINET is also envisaged.
