Recognising the crucial significance of Mobile Payments and the need to evolve standards, the Institute in association with the Rural Technology Banking Incubator, IIT Madras, has set up the Mobile Payment Forum of India (MPFI).
The Mission of the MPFI is to “enable Mobile Payments in India with secure transaction at low cost through robust technology” and its Vision is to “provide a forum for sharing and discussing latest developments, opportunities and constraints in enabling Mobile Payments in India; identify and advise the enablers for implementing Mobile Payment Systems; create awareness among enablers/users through Educational Workshops; guide Banks, Telecom Organizations, Support Service Providers, Government and others for providing Mobile Payments in an inter-operable and heterogeneous environment including in the rural areas.” The first meeting of the MPFI was held on September 15, 2007. It spread over four broad sessions, which focused on Overview and necessity of MPFI, Mobile Technologies, Business Models, and Regulatory Aspects and Policy. Over 50 delegates from the Reserve Bank of India, Banks and Financial Institutions, Telecom Companies, Technology Solution Providers, and Academia attended the meeting. |
